How Technology Will Join Families and Loved Ones this Christmas

There's a reason that the holidays are deemed the most wonderful time of the year, and it's because you get to reconnect with loved ones that you may not get a chance to see all the time. A lot of the time, family and dear friends get a chance to come together over the dinner table. However, it's not always that everyone can connect. Sometimes, whether it be a canceled flight, snowstorm, sickness, or anything else, these people close to your heart may not be able to be together physically. But, thanks to technological advancements, those who aren't there in person can be together in other ways.

Whether you're down the street or miles away, you can still celebrate the holidays with your loved ones thanks to the virtual world. Here is how technology will join families and loves ones this Christmas:

Video chats

The first thing that may come to mind when talking about reconnecting with loved ones who aren't there in person with you is chatting over video. Thanks to technology like Skype, FaceTime, Zoom, and a bunch of other video-interfacing products, you'll be able to talk face-to-face in any way that's easiest for the whole group. Plan a time that works best for all; during dinner to it looks like you're eating together while opening gifts, or even during some downtime. Use your phones, or laptops, or even connect them to your TV so you can all see and talk. Just make sure your microphones are working!

Movie streaming parties

You don't need to talk to feel connected to one another. There are so many streaming sights that allow you to have viewing parties nowadays, that you can select a time throughout the day you all want to sit and watch a movie (no matter who's where). Dim the lights, grab yourselves a bowl of popcorn, and enjoy the show (a Christmas movie, preferably)! You'll be able to feel the energy of your loved ones through the screen, almost as if they're sitting on the couch right next to you.

Virtual party games

If you're more of a party host who loves playing games, this is a perfect opportunity for you. Technology now means that you can play games online with other people, and we're not talking about video games! From board games to card games and other games you'd normally play in person, you can do all of that over the screen with other people who aren't there in person with you.

You can also play virtual party games on your phone while video chatting, this way you can see each other and react to one another when playing. Just download the game app on your phone, have everyone who wants to play get the passcode to enter the game, and you'll all be virtually connected and ready to play the game!
